TRUFFLES AND MUSHROOMS SINCE 1987...

 The road that leads from Poggibonsi to Empoli, crossing the River Elsa valley and exchanging landscapes characterised by vineyards and olive groves among gentle hills and steep slopes surrounded by woods populated with oaks, white poplars, poplars and Holm-oaks; a natural environment which is home to the King of the Table: "The Truffle". It is in this area that grandfather Antonio, in the second half of 19th century, hunted for this previous tuber and handed down his passion and experience to his grandchildren with just one aim "to create genuine products with real flavours to discover on our tables every day". But times change and family traditions have to adapt: so hunting ceased to be a hobby and became part of their livelihood as they became artisans and also entrepreneurs.
And so, in 1987, Calugi Tartufi & Funghi was set up. The company now occupies a modern, custom-built laboratory in Cambiano, in the heart of Tuscan countryside, perfectly equipped from a technological viewpoint, compliant to current EEC regulations and constantly expanding. Over the years it has progressed from the sale of the truffles alone, adding fresh and frozen wild Porcini mushrooms, also transforming and preserving them. The range then expanded further, with the  "Products of the Land", artichokes, asparagus, olives, scallions and so on, through the exquisite readymade sauces and the latest addition of saffron and confectionery.
Stefania and Simone have received a wonderful heritage: culture and tradition. Great-grandfather Antonio has genetically transmitted his "nose", so that they can capture the aromas and select the very best truffles, along with conscience and honesty, allowing them to select the best ingredients and process them according to the best Tuscan tradition.
