In the beginning

The story of the family and the truffle began with Antonio, Stefania Calugi’s great-grandfather, and continued with her grandfather Guido. Thanks to them, her father Renato also acquired a great passion for truffles, but he never thought it would become his job.

Our origins

Stefania founded the company and began selling fresh truffles, selecting the product from a network of trusted truffle hunters who had been identified over the years by her father, Renato. Initially the clientele consisted of catering professionals and stores in Tuscany

Thanks to the impeccable selection activity combined with great dedication to her work, she soon became a reference point for Tuscan chefs.

In 1988 she opened a small 67-square-metre workshop in the centre of Castelfiorentino. The following years saw a succession of important goals that led to the consolidation of the company and the beginning of its expansion onto foreign markets.

Stefania has always believed that the distinctive element are the people: that is why a constant focus is on maintaining and developing a close-knit team that acts like a large orchestra.

A leap in quality
1992

A leap in quality

In 1992, the company moved to a different location, still in Castelfiorentino, due to its strong link with the Val d’Elsa, a hilly area between Florence and Pisa known for its beautiful landscapes, and rich in art and history. The move to larger premises became indispensable due to production requirements that demanded a larger staff and new machinery, so the space was increased from 67 to 400 square metres. In this context, the company developed more modern and advanced working processes and expanded the number of products to include vegetables and especially truffle-based products. The launch of one of the company’s best-sellers – sliced truffles – dates to the early 1990s. The line was set up dedicated to supplies for other companies (e.g.: delicatessens and cheese factories) that required semi-finished truffle products to be used as ingredients.

Jurij Marchetti works side by side with Stefania at the helm of the company. He manages the fresh, frozen and dried truffles as well as the export business. Stefania is in charge of the commercial and product development. Both are personally involved in defining the company’s guidelines, the same that in recent years have contributed to its growth with great satisfaction. 

Major innovations
2016

Major innovations

In 2016, with the acquisition of additional space, the company building expanded from 400 to over 1,000 square metres. At the same time, between 2016 and the early part of 2017, the renovation and modernisation of the laboratory, the warehouse and the premises where the offices and showroom are located, were completed.

Autumn 2017 saw the inauguration of the “Truffle Trail”, built inside the company and featuring plants, objects and a series of illustrations that allow visitors to get to know the 360-degree world of truffles.

Over the years, the company has become a true Italian excellence, also recognised at an institutional level thanks to the “Made in Italy” certification awarded by the Institute for the Protection of Italian Producers in 2014.

Renovation and enlargement of the workshop to 250 square metres and expansion of the raw materials storage area.

The company invests in 4.0 machinery.
